Harbord Diggers Going Out with a Bang

16 Oct 2017

Harbord Diggers is hosting a full weekend of free entertainment on 28 and 29 October before the iconic club temporarily closes its doors from November to expedite the new state-of-the-art Diggers venue, expected to launch in April/May 2018.

The club promises to go out with a bang, with the fun beginning on Saturday 28 October with a free Family Fun Day presented by Explore and Develop Freshwater. Local families are invited to come along for a great day out from 12pm to 3pm with a jumping castle, animal farm, face painting and live entertainment from Antoine of Hooley Dooleys fame.

The final weekend of operations in the current Diggers venue will then culminate in a special Last Hurrah event on Sunday 29 October. This community celebration will see a full day of free live entertainment on the Diggers Corona deck with The Thompson Twins from 12pm to 3pm and Hat Attack from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
General Manager of Harbord Diggers, Dale Hunt, said that the weekend will be a great way to celebrate the end of an era before the venue takes a short break to continue work on the new intergenerational precinct.

“We want to give back to the community that has given so much to us over the years and say thank you for their support, particularly in the last 18 months while we have been under construction,” said Mr Hunt.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming families and locals through our doors for a fantastic weekend of entertainment before our temporary closure.

“Between now and the end of this month we are gearing up Manly Bowling Club, less than 5 kilometres away, to support our loyal members during the Diggers temporary closure period.

"We will also have our courtesy buses operating for Manly Bowling Club during this time, picking up and dropping off members within a 5 kilometre radius from either venue,” he added.

The Family Fun Day will take place at Harbord Diggers from 12pm – 3pm on Saturday 28 October. The Diggers Last Hurrah will be hosted on Sunday 29 October from 12pm - 6.30pm.

Harbord Diggers will be open as usual until 5pm Tuesday 31 October. The rooftop bar and restaurant Gio will be operating Thursday to Sunday for lunch and dinner until Sunday 22 October.
