Major Building Works Now Underway At Harbord Diggers

Main building works have now commenced on the new Harbord Diggers, the multi-million-dollar development project which will see major upgrades to one of the Northern Beaches’ oldest and most iconic establishments.
Mounties Group the owners of Harbord Diggers gave the official letter of instruction to commence major works at the end of March. Builder preparations have since commenced which includes erecting the hoarding on the site and preparing the Western end for excavation which will commence later this month.
The development concept is considered a world first and will see the creation of an intergenerational community hub boasting a range of world class facilities and services.
The building works for the project are being managed by Ganellen, construction leaders who specialise in multi-million-dollar developments in the retail, commercial, medium-residential and government sectors.
“We are excited to be a part of this significant project, which will have such a positive impact on such a wide cross section of the Northern Beaches community for years to come,” said Christopher Ahern, Commercial Director, Ganellen.
“With so much planning involved we are delighted to be able to now get onto the site to start the major works which includes excavation work on the multi-storey club carpark and development of the new club building,” Mr Ahern added.
The current works signify Stage 1 of the development and will see the construction of a brand new Club facility boasting a brand new hospitality precinct, children’s play areas, new bars and lounges, function facilities and enhanced member services.
Dale Hunt, General Manager of Harbord Diggers, said that the commencement of major works marks a historic moment for the Club.
“With main building works now kicked off, we are starting to witness the transformation of our vision into reality. It really is the big start to building our new legacy,” said Mr Hunt.
“Years of careful planning and consultation have led up to this moment and we are just so excited to see cranes and construction on a big scale, on the site. It is rewarding to know that by as soon as late- 2017 the new Club may be ready for the community to access and enjoy,” he added.
The new Harbord Diggers will also see the addition of seniors’ community living, Watermark Freshwater, a state of the art fitness centre to be managed by Gfitness, a Carlile Swimming aquatic centre and a professional childcare facility to be operated by Explore & Develop – creating a completely intergenerational hub.
Harbord Diggers has already received huge interest in the seniors’ living apartments, Watermark Freshwater, with over 60 percent of the apartments already purchased since sales launched in October 2015.
“These unprecedented sales figures demonstrate a huge demand for the unique type of retirement lifestyle we are offering and I encourage any interested buyers to scoop up an apartment before sales are exhausted,” Mr Hunt said.
As the main building works take form, members and guests will still have an opportunity to enjoy the Harbord Diggers experience, with the launch of an exciting new temporary club venue imminent.
The temporary club will provide a taste of things to come and will feature a number of key drawcards including a high-end rooftop restaurant and bar, a standout authentic café and bar, a local providores and a gourmet street food venue.
“We want to remind our members and guests that we will still be operating as usual throughout the development process,” Mr Hunt added.
“We have put immense effort into planning a temporary facility that people will want to come back to again and again.
“Importantly, our temporary club venue will certainly be ready in time for what will be another huge ANZAC Day at the Diggers,” added Mr Hunt.
