The Diggers Dig Deep for Special Stewart House Kids

Santa arrived early on the Northern Beaches this year when he made a special visit to Harbord Diggers' for the annual Christmas Party for Stewart House kids on Monday 28 November. Over 100 kids from Stewart House attended the day, where they enjoyed entertainment, gifts and of course, an early visit from the big man in red himself, who dropped in to spread some joy to children in need.
Based in Curl Curl, Stewart House supports almost 2,000 kids annually, providing them with a 12-day stay on the beach at no cost to their parents or carers. During their stay these kids are provided with dental, optical, hearing and medical screening and treatment, as well as educational programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and improve their overall wellbeing.
Dale Hunt, General Manager of Harbord Diggers, said that the club has a longstanding relationship with Stewart House and looks forward to this special event each year. "We have a close relationship with Stewart House and know that the annual Christmas party is a great opportunity to interact with some of the children who visit and provide them with an opportunity to get into the festive spirit," said Dale. “The kids have often travelled from far and wide to take part in the Stewart House program and many of them are from disadvantaged backgrounds or isolated areas.
"As a community organisation we love to help put a smile on the kids’ faces with a day of entertainment and nothing beats watching their faces light up when Santa Claus makes his big entrance," added Dale. Harbord Diggers will be keeping the festive spirit alive throughout December with their free weekly Christmas craft and gift markets from 4pm. Held each Thursday in the lead up to Christmas the markets will offer gift and craft stalls, the opportunity for locals to purchase real Christmas trees, free Santa photos and carols.
