Close Shave For Mounties Group Executives Will Help To Fight Cancer

2 Nov 2020

Mounties Group CEO, Dale Hunt and Executive Marketing Manager, Dave Callan have committed an unusual personal asset to a very good cause, having agreed to shave their heads to support the Fairfield Relay for Life.
The event first took place 14 years ago at Mounties Club in Mount Pritchard, and since then has raised over one million dollars to help fund the Cancer Council's life-saving research.

Fairfield Relay for Life was due to return to Mounties this year, but with COVID-19 restrictions in place, it is unable to proceed.  That hasn't stopped the eager duo, though, with the pair agreeing to support the cause in another way - raising vital funds by chopping off their hair.

To make things a little more interesting, they will go "head-to-head" to see who can raise the most money ahead of the "main event" on Saturday, 14 November.

Mr Hunt explained that the decision to get involved was a simple one given the important work that the Cancer Council does within the community.
"It is a well-known and rather sombre fact that at some point in our life, us or someone close to us will experience the effects of cancer," he said.

"The work that the Cancer Council does is vital to our community and our members and that is enough reason for us to give everything we've got to support this cause.

"While Dave boasts a very healthy head of hair, I'm not too concerned about him at this stage and I am confident I will be able to raise the most money - I'd love to help Fairfield Relay for Life to raise a record-breaking amount this year."

Not one to back down from a challenge, Mr Callan has welcomed the friendly competition and believes that, while he has a little more to lose than his boss, he will be happy whatever the outcome as he is supporting a cause close to everyoneÃ??Ã?¢Ã?¢?Ã?¬Ã?¢?Ã?¢s heart.

"I'm not going to lie, it has certainly been a while since I saw the shape of my head without hair, but I am hoping to pip Dale to the post with the most funds raised," he said.

"Like the upcoming US election, I will be campaigning solidly over the next couple of weeks to raise as much money as possible.

"We encourage all of our members to reach out if they are battling cancer themselves or need assistance.  Mounties Group is always prepared to provide support to those who need it.

Relay for Life is about celebrating cancer survivors and carers, remembering those we've lost to cancer and uniting the local community to 'Fight Back' for a cancer-free future.

An online event featuring the head shave and the Hope Ceremony - a moment to remember and reflect held at every Relay for Life event - will take place on 14 November between 5 - 6.15pm.
