A Little Bit Of Italy To Be Served At The New Harbord Diggers

18 Mar 2020

Nothing beats a good Italian meal, except when the meal is prepared by Sardinian-born chef Giovanni Pilu. Suddenly, good becomes better.

For more than 10 years Pilu has brought the very best of Italian cuisine to his seaside restaurant, simply called Pilu, collecting various awards and accolades along the way.

It is no surprise either, that Pilu is as renowned for not only its authentic and contemporary regional Italian cuisine, as it is for its accomplished service and stellar wine list.

Set atop the picturesque headland that overlooks Freshwater and Curl Curl beaches, the new Harbord Diggers development concept by Mounties Group opening in mid-2018, will provide locals with a diverse offering that will include a venue by the famed restaurant.

"It is Italy on a plate," said Harbord Diggers General Manager, Dale Hunt.

The Harbord Diggers redevelopment will see Pilu take a relaxed and casual approach, with the restaurant boasting an understated elegance that sits perfectly within the environment.

“The food component of this world first development is crucial to the club’s ongoing success,” said Mr Hunt.

"Giovanni and Marilyn’s fresh contemporary new take on dining will be perfectly suited to our new intergenerational venue. With the superb food and ideal location it is not hard to close your eyes for a moment and, briefly, picture yourself on the Italian Riviera," he said.

“The view is, quite simply, arguably the most breathtaking in Australia as it overlooks the stunning eastern seaboard of Australia. Top that with food that is elegant and bountiful and diners set off on a journey from Lombardy in Italy's north to Campania in the south and everywhere in between, without leaving God’s country on the Northern Beaches,” he concluded.

Stage 1 of the new Harbord Diggers will open in 2018 starting with Explore & Develop Freshwater and Watermark Freshwater, followed by the new club hospitality precinct expected in mid-2018. Stage 2, which includes the fitness and aquatic centre and remaining residences, is planned for completion in late 2019.
