Now, The GIANTS Foundation and Mounties Group have formed an important partnership to realise the vision of Rio’s Legacy and build the ONLY children’s hospice in Western Sydney – Mounties Care Cottage!
Rio's Legacy was created to assist and support children with life-limiting conditions, through specialised respite and end-of-life care facilities for babies, children and their families. Named after 2-year-old Rio James Fowler, a sweet Western Sydney local who lost his life to terminal illness, the aim of Rio’s Legacy is to increase the number of pediatric hospices in Australia available to families in need.

This ground-breaking, unprecedented project will bring an unparalleled level of support to those in need, forming one of only four pediatric hospices in Australia – and the FIRST in Western Sydney.

About Rio's Legacy

Rio's Legacy was created to assist and help children with a life-limiting condition and their families. With only 3 hospices in Australia to support children under 18 with a terminal diagnosis, Rio's Legacy is working to see AT LEAST one hospice built in every state of Australia for families to access when needed the most. The vision of Rio’s Legacy is to provide more readily available facilities for families going through the most difficult time in their lives, living with a child who has a terminal illness. Â

Mounties Care offers a compassionate, whole-of-life approach to healthcare, prioritising the person above all. In 2020, Mounties Group, a 50-year-old member-based mutual organisation, decided to revolutionise healthcare by focusing on holistic, long-term improvements. With no shareholders or dividends, all profits are reinvested into enhancing services and facilities to better lives. The Mounties Care model encompasses general practice, allied health, specialist medicine, fitness centres, retirement living, in-home care, and mobility aids, all seamlessly integrated to achieve better patient outcomes.

Their philanthropic programs empower young people from culturally diverse, low socio-economic, and disadvantaged communities across Western Sydney, Southern NSW, and the ACT. Guided by our pillars of health, harmony, education, and employment, these programs foster social cohesion, inclusion, and leadership. They have positively impacted over 46,000 people in these regions. The GIANTS Foundation furthers our community vision by supporting club initiatives and community partners. Investment in high-performance facilities and programs is crucial for the long-term success of the GIANTS and benefits both the local communities and the club.
