What is Domestic & Family Violence?
Domestic and family violence refers to patterns of behavior in relationships that involve physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, or financial abuse. It occurs when one person seeks to gain or maintain power and control over another person within a domestic setting, such as in a marriage, cohabitation, or familial relationship.
This type of violence can manifest in various forms, including physical harm, verbal threats, manipulation, isolation, and coercion. It affects individuals of all genders, ages, and backgrounds and can have serious and long-lasting impacts on the well-being and safety of victims. Addressing domestic and family violence requires a comprehensive approach, including legal protection, support services, and societal efforts to challenge and change harmful norms and behaviors.
Follow My Lead
Follow My Lead is a resource designed to build on the understanding of people responding to control, abuse and violence. Follow My Lead is a resource that speaks from the voices of people with lived experience of domestic, family and sexualised violence who need the professionals and their social networks to be more prepared to respond in ways that uphold their dignity and build on safety.
My Safety Kit
My Safety Kit speaks in the voice of the reader who may be reflecting on their own relationships and (possible) experiences of domestic and family violence.
It includes reflection questions about your safety and wellbeing, information about what domestic violence and abuse can look like, a decision-making tool, and contact details for services across states and territories that may be able to support you in your next steps.
My Dignity - My Body is Mine
National, state and territory definitions and criminal codes vary, however violence and abuse is never acceptable in any community, family, institution, place or context. This resource includes victims’ experiences of, responses to, and resistance against violence and abuse.
I Am, I Can
‘I am. I can.’ was created to invite reflection about the use of violence (in any form) being a ‘choice’.
