Chomping At The Bit For New Harbord Diggers Restaurant

18 Mar 2020

For those times where only a perfectly cooked steak, succulent ribs or the freshest snapper will do – and let’s face it, there are a lot of those times – Teddy Larkin’s Seafood and Steakhouse will soon be the answer at the new Harbord Diggers.

Teddy Larkin’s will aim to encapsulate everything that makes the Northern Beaches a unique part of Sydney. Heading up the kitchen is Doug Fraser, a Northern Beaches local with plenty of knowledge and experience.

Doug certainly knows a thing or two about cuts of meat. Having completed his apprenticeship at Aria, Doug travelled overseas to work with the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Raymond Blanc before returning to the Beaches. Since then, the former Head Chef of Barbuto has been at the helm of some of Sydney’s most loved steakhouse kitchens.

"Nothing beats a good steak, especially when it’s from Jack’s Creek, and we will have the best steaks around, as well as succulent ribs, buttermilk southern deep-fried chicken and the freshest seafood, all the good stuff,” said Head Chef Doug Fraser.

“We are looking forward to unveiling the imposing 1.6kg tomahawk – a steak designed to be shared but, even then, comes as no job for the faint of heart,” he added.

Operating a great local steakhouse with a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere was always the vision for owners Michael and Gabby Timbs and their business partners – former Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles captain Ben Kennedy and his wife Ash.

Having scoured the Northern Beaches for over two years to find a suitable setting which perfectly complemented their Steakhouse vision, on the headland between Freshwater and Curl Curl at the iconic Diggers site was an ideal setting to turn the owners’ idea into a reality.

The name ‘Teddy Larkin’s’ was discovered by Gabby, finding a common connection between the Diggers and great mates Michael and Ben. A former Wallaby, Teddy was a remarkable man who shared a deep appreciation for both rugby union and rugby league codes, dying tragically alongside his brother at Gallipoli in 1915. At the time, he was a member of NSW Parliament, however enlisted within 10 days of the declaration of war, not wanting to ask others to do what he would not do himself.

Mounties Group Chief Executive Officer, Greg Pickering said that under Head Chef Fraser’s tutelage and the stewardship of the Timbs team, Teddy Larkin’s will offer locals and visitors a true treat to their palate.

"We are really thrilled to welcome the Teddy Larkin’s team to our spectacular new venue,” Mr Pickering said.

Stage 1 of the new Harbord Diggers will open in June 2018 starting with Explore & Develop Freshwater and Watermark Freshwater, followed by the new club and dining precinct expected from 30 June. Stage 2 of the new venue, which includes the fitness and aquatic centre and remaining residences, is planned for completion in late 2019.
