Creating Possibilities With Pedals

Mounties is excited to showcase how Freedom Solutions has benefited via the 2023 ClubGRANTS program. Last year’s funding has facilitated the provision of Freedom Wheels bike trials, offering individuals with disabilities in the local Fairfield community with the opportunity to experience the joy of riding customised bikes tailored to their unique needs.
The initiative, made possible through Mounties' support, has provided ten bike trials at no cost to the individuals, parents, or carers involved. This not only alleviates financial strain but also offers emotional reassurance, ensuring that everyone has the chance to find a bike that suits their requirements.
During these trials, participants with disabilities have the opportunity to explore various bike sizes and attachments that support and enable them to ride, often for the first time in their lives. This hands-on experience allows them to identify the perfect combination of size and accessories, with quotes provided for potential funding applications through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or other avenues.
“For many individuals with disabilities, bike riding is more than recreation, it represents a pathway to active engagement within their community. The physical and social benefits of cycling are profound, enhancing fitness levels and fostering social connections,” said Denise Pastor from Freedom Solutions.
“Riding a customised bike can grant individuals the freedom of independent movement, irrespective of their reliance on walking frames or wheelchairs, thereby positively impacting their overall health and wellbeing,” she continued.
With an average of 80 percent of assessments focusing on children, this initiative has made a significant impact in the lives of young individuals facing unique challenges due to disabilities.
Efe is an 11-year-old boy living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He first came to a Freedom Wheel's trial in 2019 to get a trike and four years later, he came back for another trial for a two-wheel Voyager Bike!
"Freedom means that Efe has the confidence to do all the things he loves to do without any barriers. Freedom Wheels allows him to enjoy bike riding, like any other individual from the community, without limiting him and allowing him to grow," shared Sev, Efe's mother.
Mounties' support of Freedom Solutions underscores its dedication to fostering inclusivity and empowerment within the community.
“Mounties Group is honoured to contribute to Freedom Solutions through our ClubGRANTS Program, facilitating access to custom-made bikes for individuals living with disabilities,” said Mounties Group President, John Dean.
“The impact of this initiative extends far beyond the individuals directly involved, through this ClubGRANT, we’re opening doors to independence, social inclusion and positive development to members of the Fairfield community,” he added.
